Wow perfect conditions for running - a little foggy, sun rising, no breeze, the waves gently lapping the banks of the beach.
There were less runners than last year, which was great for us as it was a less congested field. The first little hill was conquered, then next incline was smashed, the "hill" was beaten from last year but beat me at the very end, however I probably only walked 50m before running again. Going downhill it was hard not to get caught up in speeding to the end of the line, and then a small incline again. Then off for lap 2. The hills played with my head again however having my running partner beside me meant there was little room for letting it completely conquer me. I probably walked 100-150m total in the hills. And again coming back down the hill meant little time to rein in the enthusiasm.
When you round that last corner and can see the finish line and the time is well below what you expected and lower than the year before you do get that little sense of accomplishment and a small burst of speed in your feet.
